2312 Second AvenueFormerly: | RKO Distributing Company Building | This is one of Seattle's often overlooked pieces of film history. This building was built as a distribution facility for movies made by the RKO studios. From this building, the latest features from Hollywood and New York were sent to theaters across the northwest. Such "film exchanges" were vital points for spreading culture to the corners of America, and helped develop the Hollywood film studios and theater networks. The owners of larger theaters that could afford trips to Seattle would preview RKO movies in this building's theater, before taking them back to their home towns. The owners of smaller theaters relied on salesmen who made circuits from Alaska to Montana to pitch RKO films without the benefit of a preview. Quick Facts
