No moat. No drawbridge. No princess with a pointy hat. This building isn't much of a castle. But then again to the people who live here it might be. "A man's home is his castle" after all, and this building has been providing homes to Seattleites since the very early part of the 20th century.

At the time this apartment block was erected, the city of Seattle was experiencing a downtown residential boom. There wasn't much time to make fancy buildings, but this one tries. It has a terra cotta cornice typical of the day, and two horizontal terra cotta bands which help break up the massing of this structure. An unusual element for the neighborhood are stacks of bay windows on certain sides of the building. These vertical elements give the building a little extra visual height, but for some reason very conspicuously don't extend to the top floor.
